About us
St John the Baptist School
is a single form entry Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School situated
on the southern edge of the town of Andover, eighteen miles north-west of
Winchester. Andover lies at the head of the Test Valley among varied and
beautiful countryside. It was a small, ancient market town until it expanded
with a London overspill project in the late 1960's. In 1970 the Diocese
of Portsmouth, realizing the need for a Roman Catholic School to serve the
town and surrounding area, purchased the land and built the school. Over
thirty years later the school still serves a wide area, taking children
from as far apart as Whitchurch and Tidworth. Despite the extensive catchment
area, one of the school's strengths is its family atmosphere.
Since its opening, the school has had a close relationship with the parish. The present parish priest is Fr. Peter Codd. Parents and parishioners are always welcome and many help the teachers in the classroom.
Jesus said, "I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full." Christ's teaching is central to the school and He is welcomed into our school family through a variety of ways. One being the Eucharist, which is at the centre of the life of the school, and is regularly celebrated in school. Parents and visitors are always very welcome to join us.
